FARGO — On Wednesday night, the South-Shanley boys hockey team became the first North Dakota team since 2016 to defeat Grand Forks Central.

The Bruins will quickly look ahead to this weekend when the team will have an opportunity to play Bismarck in Hockey Day North Dakota.

Despite the possibility of bad weather, junior goaltender Zach Sandy thinks playing outside won't be an issue.

"I haven't ever played outdoors in a real game, I'm excited to see what it is like," he said. "I heard the weather is going to be cold so I'm going to wear quite a few layers, but what an experience you get to have as a high schooler."

Fargo South-Shanley (8-3-1) has never played in Hockey Day North Dakota.

"It will be fun. I think the ice should be fine ... just cherish every moment, because life goes by fast," Sandy said.

The outdoor game in Jamestown is set for Saturday at 2 p.m.
