Spartans earn 2nd place in tourney

The Fargo North boys soccer team took second place at the Metro Classic on Saturday in Fargo.

North dropped a 1-0 decision to Lakeville North in the championship game. Lakeville North's goal came early in the second half, in the 42nd minute.

"Lakeville North played a very strong and very fast game," North coach Casey Tidd said. "Defensively, (we) tried to hold them but exhaustion and just being tired - three games in two days - just took a toll on them."

Fargo South went 1-0-1 Saturday to take third place in the six-team tournament. Moorhead, Blaine and Elk River were the other three teams.

Chris Baskerville, Mark Laraway and Ismir Pekmic each scored goals in the Bruins' 3-0 win over Elk River for third place.

Mario Araujo scored two goals to help Moorhead top Blaine 4-1.
