Sports digest: Minot State director honored by DAC-10

DICKINSON, N.D.

DICKINSON, N.D. -- Minot State University athletic director Rick Hedberg was named the Dakota Athletic Conference athletic director of the year by his peers.

Hedberg has overseen a doubling of booster fund-raising as well as additions to the athletic complexes at the university.

This past school year, Minot State captured four conference championships and the school's first national team title when the men's cross country team won the NAIA championship.

Bison assistant advances

North Dakota State assistant track and field coach Stevie Keller and Central Missouri State assistant Travis Geopfert qualified for the U.S. Track and Field Championships with lifetime bests Friday at the Bison's Ellig Sports Complex.

Geopfert's score of 7,729 ranks him 11th in the United States and 25th in the world. Keller's score of 7,673 ranks him 13th in the nation and 30th in the world.

Both athletes will compete in the U.S. championships June 21-22 at Stanford.

In other action Friday, Chris Kingsley won the girls heptathlon with 4,170 points and Merdith Davis won the women's heptathlon with 5,672.
