FARGO — The semi-pro football season for the Fargo Invaders is tentatively scheduled to start July 11, one month later than originally planned because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Invaders are a member of the Northern Elite Football League, whose officials announced Saturday that the season will start July with the championship scheduled for Aug. 29.
“All teams want a season, we all love football, which is why we do what we do,” Fargo Invaders President Matt Petznick said. “But we have to maintain the health and safety considerations. We will have a final decision on June 6.”
One of the biggest challenges for teams in in the league will be field availability, the league said in a press release. Rentals may be more difficult this season with some schools closed until August. Also, CDC guidelines on large gatherings will be examined, with the possibility of playing without fans this season.
