Strong second half lifts Gophers over Fighting Hawks in men's hoops

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota propelled past the University of North Dakota 76-67 in college men's basketball Friday night inside Williams Arena.

The Fighting Hawks jumped out to an 11-point lead in the first half, while knocking down five 3-pointers. After halftime, the Gophers took advantage of nine UND turnovers, at one point taking a 12-point lead.

Filip Rebraca led the Fighting Hawks with 23 points and six rebounds, while Caleb Nero added 16 points. Tyree Ihenacho also finished in double figures, chipping in 10 points. UND shot 25-for-60 (41.7%) from the field.

Both Gach's 21 points and nine rebounds led the Gophers (4-0). Marcus Carr tallied 17 points and a team-high nine assists, while Brandon Johnson followed with 15 points.

UND (0-3) tips off against South Dakota at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10.
