Corky Thomas knew something had to give during the last laps of the Super Stocks feature Tuesday at West Fargo's Red River Valley Speedway.
But nothing bad happened.
Thomas went door-to-door with Bill Wadeson during the final eight laps of the 20-lap race before coming around on the low side of Turn 4 on the final lap and pulling ahead for the win.
"You couldn't have put a piece of bread between us," Thomas said.
The margin of victory was less than a second.

Thomas said running down low wasn't a main part of the game plan, even though he's glad it worked.
"I was running down there because he was in the middle and that's where I felt comfortable," Thomas said.
It was the second consecutive victory for the Fargo driver, who won last Friday's feature.
Thomas started the race in the 11th spot, but gradually worked his way to the front of the pack.
"It's experience," Thomas said. "I just take my time."
Wadeson led most of the early laps, except for a few brief moments when Thomas managed to sneak by.
Thomas took the lead in the 13th lap, but Wadeson reclaimed the lead after two turns.
With four laps left, Thomas took another short-lived lead on Turn 4, but Wadeson passed him on the next turn.

"He's a clean racer," Thomas said. "He dang near won that race."
Blake Borgen won his third consecutive Midwest Modifieds feature, surviving three cautions and several pass attempts by Troy Burnside.
"That's unheard of," Borgan said of his three straight wins. "I've been starting in the front and have been able to hang on to the lead one way or another."
Burnside worked the low side of the track and created several chances to take the lead, but Borgan held off every attempt, eventually fading to the low side and holding on for the win.
"We got lucky again," said the Perley, Minn., driver.
Dusty Peterson and Blake Jegtvig pushed each other during the late laps of the Mod Fours feature.
Jegtvig built a strong lead midway through the 12-lap race. However, Peterson gradually and carefully moved his way up, taking the lead on Turn 4 with two laps remaining.
Wissota Street Stocks points leader Duffy Froemke survived several cautions and led most of the way en route to the win.

Dave Glennon took the victory in the Sprints feature, fending off last Friday's winner Scott Butz.
