BENSON, Minn.-A terroristic threat led to the abrupt cancellation of the Case IH boys basketball tournament on Friday at the Benson High School.

A release from Benson Chief of Police Ian Hodge stated that an individual made "direct terroristic threats" against the Benson High School, which was the host site for the two-day boys tournament with games scheduled at 6 and 8 p.m. on Friday

Breckenridge and MACCRAY were in the second half of the tournament's first game when Benson Activities Director Shannon Schmidt learned of the threats and announced the evacuation. The second game, featuring Benson and ACGC, also was postponed.

Law enforcement apprehended the person allegedly responsible for the threats and placed the person in custody. There is no threat to the public, Hodge stated in the release on the Benson Police Department's Facebook page.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing, Hodge stated.
