COON RAPIDS, Minn. -- Three Fargo-based golfers are among the top 25 heading into the final round of the Minnesota State Open men's tournament today at Bunker Hills Golf Club.
Josh Persons, who competes for Kansas State, sits in a tie for 12th at 148 -- 4-over par -- after firing a 75 in Saturday's second round. Meanwhile, Darin Uselman, the assistant pro at Rose Creek golf course, and Drake University golfer Kane Hanson are tied for 25th at 6-over 150.
Hanson and Persons were tied for ninth after shooting 73 in the first round Friday.
Also in contention is Mike Berg of Detroit Country Club, who is just four shots back of co-leaders Mario Tiziani and Mike Christensen at 147.
The Minnesota State Open, held since 1917, features the top professional and amateur players in the state.

Schultz finishes 22nd
HOT SPRINGS, Va. -- David Schultz shot a 6-over 76 to finish 22nd in the Southern Amateur Championship Saturday, posting the highest round among those better than 50th place.
The Fargo South graduate, who shot 286, fell from his seventh-place position as nine of the top 10 players shot par or better Saturday.
Schultz, a junior-to-be at Texas Christian University, trailed by four shots heading into the final round.
Winner Casey Wittenbuerg of Memphis, Tenn., blistered the course with a final-round 64, the best score posted in the tournament and finished at 272 to win by one.
