SACRAMENTO, Calif. — North Dakota State track and field athletes earned top marks in events at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds on Thursday.
Sophomore Alex Talley from West Fargo threw a mark of 210 feet, 9 inches in the hammer throw to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June in Austin, Texas. He is the third Bison athlete in school history to qualify for the championships, following Casey Orgon in 2013 and Jacob McBride in 2018.
Two athletes from the women's team — Akealy Moton of West Fargo and Bailey Retzlaff from Carrington, N.D. — earned marks strong enough to qualify for the championships, as well. Moton placed sixth in the first round of the javelin with a mark of 165-10, a personal best. Bailey Retzlaff came in sixth in the first round of hammer throw competition at 204-11.
After two of four flights in the long jump, Amanda Levin was among the top 10 late Thursday night.
Competition continues on Friday and Saturday.
