BROOKINGS, S.D. — Junior Nadir Yusuf took first place in the 3,000 meters to lead the Minnesota State Moorhead track and field teams at Day 1 of the South Dakota State Indoor Classic.

Yusuf won with a time of 8 minutes, 32.52 seconds — the best time in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this season.

In the same event, junior Drew Mears ran a personal-best 15:37.34 to finish 17th in the 5K.

On the women's side, sophomore Andrea Mears ran a time of 11:19.89 in the 3K for 24th place.

The meet continues Saturday, when most of the the teams will be competing. Junior Nick Marshall and sophomore Carson Speicher will compete at the NSIC Indoor Challenge in Mankato, Minn.
