FARGO -- Just a sophomore, Alimath Salou already holds an important spot on the Fargo Davies girls track and field team.
At the EDC championships, she competed in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 4 x 100-meter relay and the 4 x 200-meter relay.
"It is very fun and it feels good to have, so much people cheering you on," said Salou.
But her journey to becoming one of Davies' most important anchors is a funny story.
"So, I went on vacation to Africa, and when I came back I missed the soccer deadline, and all my friends were like, 'OK Alimath, just join track.' And I was like 'OK I'll give it a try.' And I ran it and it was very fun."
From that point on, Salou's family convinces her to continue in track and field, putting to the side the sport of soccer, to take up an integral role on the Davies track team.
"It is very nice and it feels very good to just keep on continuing what is Davies track and field," the sophomore said.
Now, Salou looks to help her team capture a fifth consecutive team title at the state track meet in Class A.
"I think it's very hard to be put in this position, to be in varsity and run with the top people in Davies, but I feel like it is a great opportunity and everyone just makes the atmosphere feel like home," she said.
