COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Three North Dakota State men's track and field athletes qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday during the opening day of the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds.
Alex Talley, Benji Phillips and Kristoffer Thomsen each earned top-12 finishes, claiming a spot in the outdoor championships to be held June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
Talley posted a toss of 226 feet, 8 inches on his final attempt in the hammer throw to take fourth place. Phillips was fifth in the javelin with a mark of 228-6, and Thomsen placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 63-10 1/2.
The NCAA West Prelims will continue over the next three days. The women will compete on Thursday and Saturday, and the men will conclude competition on Friday.
