COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The North Dakota State women's track and field team will feature at least five athletes at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Results came from the NCAA Preliminary Rounds Thursday, May 27. Akealy Moton qualified in the javelin and shot put, while joining her was Maddy Nilles in the hammer throw, Kari Wolfe in the javelin and Shelby Gunnells in the shot put.

Competitors who finish in the top 12 earn a spot at the outdoor championships.

Thanks to a career-best throw of 179-1 (54.58), Moton grabbed the top spot in the javelin. She also finished third place in the shot put.

Nilles finished in fourth place in the hammer, qualifying thanks to her throw of 216-4 (65.95m), while Wolfe's throw of 174-3 (53.11m) in the javelin was good enough for seventh place.

Gunnells took eighth in the shot put, throwing 55-09.25 (17.00m) to secure her spot.

Men's prelims conclude Friday, while the women finish on Saturday.
