EUGENE, Ore. — Alex Talley and Benji Phillips of the North Dakota State track and field team each clinched first-team All-American status on Wednesday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field.

Talley, a junior, finished sixth in the hammer throw with a heave of 232 feet, 11 inches, the second-best throw of his career.

The sophomore Phillips placed eighth in the javelin with a throw of 234-3 to clinch All-American honors. Additionally, Phillips won the NCAA Elite 90 Award, which is presented to the single student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average at each of the NCAA's 90 national championships. Phillips has a 4.0 GPA with a double major in exercise science and psychology.

Kristoffer Thomsen was 20th in the shot put, earning All-American honorable mention.
