TEMPE, Ariz. — North Dakota State men's track and field team opened its outdoor season Friday at the Baldy Castillo Invitational at Arizona State.
Bison thrower Payton Otterdahl, who was named men's indoor National Field Athlete of the Year last week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association after earning two indoor NCAA titles, threw a personal best in the hammer throw. His mark of 220 feet, 1 inch, improved on his previous personal record by 20 feet, ranking him second all-time at NDSU.
NDSU's Alex Talley reached outdoor personal bests in the shot put and hammer throw. He threw 61-2 1/4 in the shot put, ranking fourth-best in NDSU history. His hammer throw was 202-8, ranking seventh in school history.
The invitational continues Saturday with throwers at Arizona State, while the rest of the team competes at the IMG Academy Invitational in Bradenton, Fla.
