Two Moorhead boys skiers place in top eight at Detroit Mountain Invite on Tuesday

Both the Spuds boys and girls Nordic ski teams placed third at Detroit Lakes meet.

DETROIT LAKES — Two Moorhead Nordic skiers placed in the top eight and the Spuds' boys and girls teams both placed third at the Detroit Mountain Invite on Tuesday morning.

The Spuds' Zaine Braaten placed second in 11 minutes, 41.8 seconds, trailing only race winner Connor Grant of Little Falls, who finished in 11:32.6. Moorhead's Max Rogers finished eighth in 13:13.3.

Moorhead's Trygve Rux (17th in 14:03.0) and Nate Helgeson (19th in 14:10.6) both had top-20 finishes. Brainerd won the event with 374 points, Little Falls was second with 365 and the Spuds placed third with 358.

The Moorhead girls scored 349 points, good for third behind winner Brainerd (387) and second-place Bemidji (374).

Ava Nelson was the Spuds' top individual finisher at 11th in 17:33.0, followed closely by teammates Jamie Raske, who was 12th in 17:36.5, and Kennedy Olson in 13th in 17:39.7. Jacquelyn Johnson recorded a top-20 finish in 19th in 18:32.6.


Liliana Schaeffer of Brainerd won the girls race in 14:38.8 and teammate Annelise Baird was second in 15:33.2.
