FARGO — Fargo unleashed its offense against Des Moines, outshooting the Buccaneers by a wide margin in a 6-0 win on Saturday before a New Years Eve crowd of 3,710 at Scheels Arena.
The Force outshot the Buccaneers 49-19 and took all three games of a weekend series. The Force won 6-3 on Thursday and 4-2 on Friday and sit atop the Western Conference with 41 points, best in the USHL by a point over the Chicago Steel. The Force leads the conference by eight points over Lincoln.
On Saturday, the Force scored twice in the first period and opened it up with four more in the second period. Kyle Smolen scored two goals and Leo Gruba, Bret Link, Boris Skalos and Ty Henricks scored the other Fargo goals.
Link, Joe Palodichuk and J.P. Turner all had two assists and Jakob Stender, Henricks, Harper Bentz, Cole Knuble and Mac Swanson also had assists.
Anton Castro started in goal and made 18 saves and Trent Wiemken played the final 8:43 and made a save.
