USHL hockey: Force pile up goals in win over Waterloo

Fargo took a 3-1 lead in the first period and rolled to a victory over the Black Hawks on Friday.

WATERLOO, Iowa — Fargo dialed up the offense and opened a weekend series in Waterloo with a 7-4 win over the Black Hawks on Friday at Young Arena.

Kyle Smolen, Girts Silkalns and Bret Link scored first period goals and the Force took a 3-1 lead into the second. Charlie Russell made it 4-1 with a goal at 1:25 of the second period.

After a Waterloo goal the Force's Boris Skalos scored to make it 5-2 at 14:35 of the second. Waterloo got a power play goal late in the second period but Skalos scored his second of the game at 15:57 of the third and Russell scored his second with just under three minutes remaining.

Silkalns also had two assists and Joe Palodichuk and Verner Miettinen had two assists. Goalie Anton Castro stopped 31 shots.

The Force and Black Hawks play next at 6:05 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4.
