USHL hockey: Force revs up offense in victory over Sioux City

Fargo trailed by a goal in the first period but scored five-straight and downed the Musketeers on Saturday.

FARGO — Fargo fell behind early but roared into the lead on five-straight goals and defeated Sioux City 6-3 on Saturday before 4,090 at Scheels Arena.

Sioux City's Grant Slukynsky scored the first of his two goals at 3:32 of the first period but the Force scored the next five goals to take control.

Owen Mehlenbacher scored the first of his two goals at 8:54 to tie it, then Charlie Russell scored the go-ahead goal at 16:54. Mehlenbacher scored his second goal with one second left in the first.

In the second, Leo Gruba scored at 3:06 and Bret Link connected less than two minutes later. The Musketeers' Ben Doran ended the Force's scoring sting but Fargo Boris Skalos answered about six minutes later for a 6-2 lead. Slukynsky scored the lone third-period goal.

Force goalie Matej Marinov stopped 33 of 36 shots.
