USHL hockey: Force upends Sioux Falls in OT

Fargo's Anthony Menghini scored the game-winner in a victory over the Stampede on Wednesday at Scheels Arena.

FARGO — Anthony Menghini's overtime goal lifted the Fargo Force to a 4-3 win over Sioux Falls on Wednesday at Scheels Arena.

Menghini scored at 1:17 of OT on assists from Jacob Napier and Verner Miettinen.

Fargo took at 3-2 lead into the third period but Sioux Falls' Maxim Strbak tied the game with 2:04 left in regulation.

Sioux Falls' Maddox Fleming scored the only goal of the first period at 5:20. Fargo's Kevin Scott tied it with a goal at 2:04 of the second on assists from Bret Link and Jakob Stender.

Just 44 seconds after Scott's goal, the Stampede regained the lead on an Isaac Gordon goal. But the Force's Mac Swanson tied it 2-2 at 13:51 on an assist from Brasen Boser, and Miettinen set up German Yavash's goal at 17:47 to put Fargo up a goal at the end of two periods.


The Force are off Thursday before opening a two-game series against Omaha at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25 at Scheels Arena. The teams play again at 6:05 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26.
