USHL hockey: Waterloo starts strong, thumps Force

The Black Hawks scored four first-period goals and blew out Fargo on Saturday.

FARGO — Waterloo meant business against Fargo on Saturday, scoring four goals in the first period and three more in the third to blitz the Force 7-1 before 3,977 at Scheels Arena.

The Black Hawks' Gavyn Thoreson scored two goals and had an assist, Garrett Schifsky scored two goals and Gavin Lindberg, James Hong and Mike Matikka also scored goals. Aaron Pionk, Caden Brown and Gavin O'Connell all had two assists.

Cole Knuble scored Fargo's goal at 18:06 of the first period on assists from Mac Swanson and Bret Link.

Waterloo took two of three from the Force in the weekend series.
