MOORHEAD - Minnesota State Moorhead head coach Steve Laqua has been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference football coach of the year, the league office announced Thursday.

Laqua guided the Dragons to an 8-3 record during the regular season as MSUM earn a spot in the Mineral Water Bowl, an NCAA Division II bowl game that is scheduled to be played Dec. 1 in Missouri.

Laqua is the first Dragons football coach to earn the honor since 1994 when Ralph Micheli won the award.

MSUM sophomores Jake Richter, a wide receiver, and Darius Woods-Steichen, a defensive lineman, were named to the All-NSIC North Division first team.

Richter has more than 1,000 receiving yards this season, while Woods-Steichen has a team-high 8.5 sacks.
