Coach: Tessa Tysver (11th season)

Last year's finish: 18-12

Who's gone: Sofia Reno, Paige Fabre, Grace Steichen, Rae Critchley and Jocelyn Dubbels.

Key returners: Joeli Kelso, Sr., OH; Allie Critchley, Sr., DS; Peyton Wilson, Jr., MH; Mariah Watt, So., MH.

Coach's comments: "We're a little bit inexperienced, so we'll look to kind of improve as the season goes along. We have a lot more height than we have had in our past few seasons, so we'll look to improve in our blocking area of our game."

Coach: Char Lien (20th season)

Last year's finish: 22-11, section champions, fourth at state

Who's gone: Lexi Gilbertson, Kortney Carney, Callie Ahlgren and Alyssa Knain.

Key returners: Brook Carney, Sr., MH; Brooke Walthall, Sr., OH; Jalen Ennen, Jr., OH; Sam Zimmerman, So., MH.

Coach's comments: "Considering we graduated our libero, setter and leading attacker, most would think that the Spuds won't have what it takes to defend their section title, but that just seems to fuel the fire for the returning players. Silencing the critics with their attention to detail and hard work ethic will be put to the test early in the season, as our first few games are against top 10 teams in the state. However, having the bar set high is what the program is used to as they know that is what will make them better in order to compete when postseason rolls around."

We are trying to establish quality habits and find that competitive edge throughout the season."
