FARGO — North Dakota State rallied from a fourth set deficit before securing a 3-2 win over Oral Roberts in Summit League volleyball action Monday night at Benston Bunker Fieldhouse.
The Bison won 27-25, 14-25, 20-25, 26-24, 15-11.
The Bison started strong, just like they did in their 3-2 win over the Golden Eagles Sunday, taking an early 13-6 lead. Oral Roberts rallied, and eventually knotted the set up at 21-21. From there, both teams traded points before a kill from Allie Mauch and an error from Jaxie Wakley gave the first set to NDSU.
The Golden Eagles bounded back quickly, dominating the second set 25-14, which included a 14-3 run. The third set played closer with the score tied 13-13, before the road team took charge behind Wakley and Kaia Dunford, whose kill gifted Oral Roberts the set 25-20.
NDSU fell behind again in the fourth and trailed 15-11, before retaking the lead at 20-19 behind a pair of service aces from Alex Lyle. The Bison never trailed again, as Syra Tanchin thumped consecutive kills to hand NDSU the fourth set.
Leading 13-11 in the deciding set, NDSU called a timeout. On the ensuing point, Ali Hinze recorded her fourth kill of the set, bringing up match point for the Bison. The Golden Eagles followed that up with an error, which secured a fourth straight win for NDSU.
Hinze totaled a team-high 19 kills, including nine digs for the Bison. Tanchin added 11 kills, while Taylor Quan totaled 15 digs. Kelley Johnson orchestrated the NDSU offense throughout the night, tallying 42 assists. Bella Lien anchored the defense with eight blocks.
Dunford's 25 kills wasn't enough for Oral Roberts (2-6, 2-4 Summit) while Wakley finished with 19 kills, including .500 hitting percentage. Four players registered double figures in digs, with Bryanne Soares leading the way with 18. Soares also dished out 54 assists.
