Drama was in the air for North Dakota State basketball, from Fargo to Macomb.
The Bison men survived a 16-point comeback from Western Illinois and outlasted the Leathernecks in two overtimes, 84-81. Sam Griesel led NDSU's efforts with 23 points, including the go-ahead shot in double overtime to make it 82-81. Tyree Eady backed him up with 22 points.
In Fargo, the NDSU women got off to a disastrous start, let out a furious rally, only to end in calamity.
Trailing by as many as 19 points, the Bison stormed back to grab the lead over Western Illinois inside the SHAC, including a 59-57 lead late in the fourth quarter. The Leathernecks responded with a Danni Nichols bucket with 15 seconds to go, force an NDSU turnover with five seconds, and two free throws from Elizabeth Lutz gave WIU a 61-59 win.
Reneya Hopkins led Jory Collins' group with 13 points, while Abby Schulte had 12.
