WATCH: Hillsboro ends Langdon's winning streak, Cavalier wins battle of unbeatens in week six of First Down Friday

Cardinals had won 44 games in a row over the last three seasons.

Playoff football is looming in North Dakota, and Minnesota officially past the halfway point of the season. In week six of First Down Friday, two massive matchups in Class B highlighted the slate in North Dakota, while a battle of the unbeatens unleashed in East Grand Forks.

HILLSBORO/CENTRAL VALLEY SNAPS L-E-M 44-GAME WIN STREAK

HILLSBORO-- The longest active win streak in North Dakota was broken Friday night, as third ranked Hillsboro/Central Valley rallied from a first quarter deficit to win 28-13 over No. 2 Langdon Area-Edmore-Munich. Langdon's last loss came against the Burros in the 2017 state title game.

Gavin Mitzel had a pair of rushing touchdowns for the Burros, while quarterback Riley Olson connected on a 17-yard rush in the second quarter that put H-C-V ahead for good.

Hillsboro/Central Valley has won six straight games after opening the year with a loss and (6-1) travels to Grafton next Friday, while L-E-M (6-1) hosts Northern Cass.

FARGO SOUTH OUTLASTS WAHPETON IN DEFENSIVE BATTLE

WAHPETON -- Fargo South looking to bounce back in the WDAY Xtra Game of the Week, taking on Wahpeton, looking for its most wins since 2017.

The Bruins outlasting the Huskies in a defensive battle, intercepting the EDC's top passer in Blake Schafer twice. Kolby Nissen engineering the only points of the night in the second quarter with a 51-yard touchdown pass to George Hansegard. The Bruins with two goal line stands in the fourth quarter to take down Wahpeton 7-0.

South (2-4, 2-2) is at Fargo Davies (4-2, 0-1) next. Wahpeton (3-3, 2-2) is at Devils Lake (4-2, 3-1).

SHEYENNE ROLLS PAST MINOT, 37-0

WEST FARGO -- Sheyenne continued its regular season dominance on Friday night, taking down Minot 37-0.

The win was the Mustangs 15th straight victory during the regular season, which stretches back to 2019. Josh Henricks rumbled for three touchdowns in the game.

Sheyenne is 6-0, with a road game at North looming next.

GIBSON NOTCHES WIN 200 IN WEST FARGO'S VICTORY OVER LEGACY

WEST FARGO -- Jay Gibson's three decade coaching career includes numerous accolades and state titles.

It now includes the 200 win benchmark. Gibson reached it on Friday as West Fargo cruised to a 41-25 win over Bismarck Legacy.

Parker Nelson notched 273 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the win, he second straight 200 rushing yard performance.

West Fargo moves to 4-2 with the win, the Packers travel to Red River next week.

CENTURY USES BIG SECOND HALF TO BLOW BY SHANLEY

BISMARCK -- Without its starting quarterback Michael Rostberg, Shanley fell to reigning state champion Century on the road, 49-7.

Johnny Gores scored the Deacons lone touchdown of the game on a pass from Bennett Burd, who started in place of Rostberg.

Shanley fell to 3-3 with the loss, up next is a road date at Central next Friday.

DAVIES EXACTS REVENGE ON MANDAN WITH OVERTIME WIN

MANDAN -- For two straight years, Davies had to watch Mandan celebrate playoff wins on its home field.

On Friday, the Eagles returned the favor, traveling out west and beating the Braves in overtime, 27-21.

Dylan Feldner passed for 160 yards and two touchdowns, while running for 57 yards and the game-winning score in OT. He had a hand in all four of the visitors' touchdowns in the game.

Davies is 4-2 on the season, with all four wins coming over teams from the west. The Eagles host South next week.

RED RIVER EARNS THIRD WIN OF SEASON, TAKES DOWN WATFORD CITY

GRAND FORKS -- The Roughriders of Red River with two total wins the last two years, looking for win No. 3 in 2021 hosting a winless Watford City.

The Roughriders put up points Friday. Gunnar Heuchart leading an early score. Drew Boen chips in with an interception. Red River gets win No. 3, defeating Watford City 24-13.

The Roughriders move to 3-3 on the season and will host West Fargo (4-2) next week. Watford City falls to 0-6, and will play Valley City (1-5) next.

NO. 3 CAVALIER HANDS NO. 4 MAY-PORT-C-G FIRST LOSS OF SEASON

MAYVILLE-- Scoring early and often was key for third ranked Cavalier on Friday, the Tornadoes move to 7-0 with a 42-20 at May-Port-C-G.

The Tornadoes capitalized on an early turnover, which resulted in a Trevor Hinkle touchdown.

Cavalier (7-0) travels to Finley-Sharon-Hope-Page next Friday, while May-Port-C-G (6-1) is at Hatton/Northwood.

OAK GROVE SECURES FIRST VICTORY OF SEASON IN CLOSE BATTLE WITH LINTON/HMB

LINTON -- Winless Oak Grove on the road at Linton/HMB in 11B action.

ThE Grovers playing the Lions in a close one. Rylee Bakkegard with a huge pass break-up for Oak Grove on fourth down in the game. The Grovers pick up win No. 1 on the season. Linton, winless in Region action.

Oak Grove (1-6, 1-4) will play E-E-K next. The Lions (2-5, 0-5) travel to Central Cass next week.

SPUDS PUSH WINNING STREAK TO 11, DISMANTLE SARTELL

SARTELL, MN -- The Moorhead Spuds rolling in after a win over Alexandria a week ago taking on Sartell Friday.

Moorhead takes a 15-0 lead into halftime after Gavin Quade finds Alonn Salman for a touchdown. Sartell pulls to within striking distance, trailing 15-8, but the Spuds score 21 points in the second half to pull away 36-8.

Moorhead (4-0) will put its 11-game winning streak on the line next week against Elk River. Sartell (1-5) travels to Alexandria next.

ADA-BORUP-WEST REMAINS UNDEFEATED, BEATING POLK COUNTY WEST

EAST GRAND FORKS, MN -- In a battle of the undefeated, the Cougars pulled away with a win defeating the Thunder 12-7.

As Polk County West started making its way down the field, Oliver Kritzberger forced a fumble and recovered the ball giving Ada-Borup-West its first possession of the game. The Cougars were able to capitalize to take the lead 6-0.

Ada-Borup-West (5-0) will face Pine River-Backus. PCW(4-1) will go on the road to Lake Park-Audubon.

FERGUS FALLS COMES FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT PERHAM

PERHAM, MN -- The Otters come back to get a win over the Yellow Jackets 13-7.

On third and goals, the Otter's quarterback Carter Thielke throws the ball but it's picked off by Chas Melvin who runs it sixty yards down the field. UND commit, Colton Hackel, then finds the endzone to put Perham up 7-0.

Fergus Falls (4-1) will host Roseau. Perham (3-2) will face Osakis.

DETROIT LAKES DOMINATE PEQUOT LAKES

DETROIT LAKES, MN -- The Lakers cruise to a win over Pequot Lakes, winning 32-6.

After taking a 20-0 lead in the first half, Braldey Swiers connects with Chrsitian Solberg who dives over a Patriot to find the end zone.

The Lakers (3-2) will head to Barnesville next week. Pequot Lakes (0-5) will look for its first win at home against Pillager.
