FARGO— The Class A boys and girls state basketball tournament getting underway on Thursday in Bismarck. Two-time defending state champions, Century defeated Wahpeton in record breaking fashion, winning 101-51 in the first girls quarterfinals game.

Century dominated throughout the game going on a 14-0 run in the second half, leading the way was Abby Fletcher notching a career high 23 points. Scout Woods scored a team high 16 points for the Huskies. Century put up a state tournament record 101 points as the Patriots advance to Friday's semifinals. The 1:00 tip-off will be on WDAY.

In the second game of the day in the girls bracket, Red River defeated Bismarck 56-51. After trailing by as many as 12, the Roughriders picked up momentum in the second behind an 18-3 run. Sophomore Jocie Schiller led all players with 20 points, as the second seed from the east advances to face Century in the semifinals.

On the boys side, in an overtime thriller, the top seed on the west, Minot beat the third seed on the east, North, 73-72 in overtime. The Spartans had an eight point lead heading into the break, but the Magicians rallied behind Darik Dissette to take the lead late in the second half. Disette led all players with 34 points. At the buzzer, North's Gabe Sagvold nails the three to send the game into overtime. After being up as many as seven, North would lose at the buzzer as Disette would knock down the game-winning shot.

Minot will face Sheyenne in the semi final Friday at 6:30 p.m. The Mustangs using a 23-5 run in the first half to take down Mandan, 61-48. Michael Nhial scored 29 points for the Mustangs, Chase Duerr had 11 off the bench.


Also on Thursday, the MLB and player's union coming to an agreement to resume the baseball season. Regular season games could be starting as soon as April 5th, will all 162 games being played.
