FARGO NORTH PICKS UP STATEMENT WIN OVER HORACE IN HAWKS' FIRST VARSITY GAME

FARGO— The Horace Hawks made their 11A debut and played their first-ever varsity game against Fargo North. The Spartans enter the season as the second ranked team in 11A.

On North’s opening drive, quarterback Ethan Welk fires a touchdown pass to a wide open Carson Hannestad to make it 7-0 Spartans. On the next possession, Welk showed off the arm again. This time, he found basketball star Jeremiah Sem for a 44-yard touchdown pass.

Horace made history in the second quarter as Dylan Johnson powered it in for the Hawks first varsity touchdown in school history.

Fargo North travels to face Grand Forks Central next Friday and Horace visits Dickinson next Saturday.

NO. 4 CENTRAL CASS DOMINATES OFFENSIVELY AGAINST OAK GROVE

FARGO— The Oak Grove Grovers hosting Central Cass at Davies High School to open the season.

The Squirrels jumped to an early lead with three passing touchdowns from Brayden Mitchell. Cooper Johnson hauled in two in the first half. Jake Thompson was quick to follow with a 39-yard pitch and catch from Mitchell. Oak Grove answered back to start the second quarter with a 72-yard touchdown pass from Rylee Bakkegard catching Spencer Schumacher in stride.

Before the Half, the Central Cass offense showed dominance on the ground with Isaac Wisnewski picking up their first rushing touchdown of the year. Owen Wiersma followed on the ensuing drive with a 6-yard touchdown scamper to give the Squirrels a 34-7 lead at the half.

Offenses were held quiet for most of the second half. Oak Grove would find the scoreboard one more time in the fourth quarter with a 13-yard touchdown run on the Quarterback keeper by Bakkegard. The score held from there with Central Cass taking the win 34-14. The Squirrels, now 1-0, will travel to Oakes next week. After the loss, Oak Grove will head to Sargent County.

TOP RANKED KINDRED OPENS WITH SHUTOUT WIN AGAINST KINDRED

KINDRED— The top ranked Vikings are coming off the program's first ever state football title, they open the season with a 19-0 win against Lisbon.

The Vikings got going on offense right out of the gate, as Jorgen Swenson connected with Kylan Swenson in the first quarter.

After a Camron Schwartzwalter interception over Wyatt Olson of Lisbon, the Vikings offense responds with a 58-yard touchdown pass to Charlie Biewer.

Kindred travels to Hillsboro/Central Valley for a rematch of the 2021 11B title next Friday night.

HILLSBORO/CENTRAL VALLEY SHUTS OUT PARK RIVER IN OPENER

HILLSBORO— The Class B state runner-up Hillsboro/Central Valley opened up the season taking on Park River. Cole Hebl helped the Burros race to a 13-0 lead with an 11-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

The offense did not slow down from there, Quarterback Riley Olson tacked on a rushing touchdown from 4-yards out with less than a minute before the half. The Burros cruised in game one shutting out Park River 28-0.

Hillsboro/Central Valley moves to 1-0 and will stay at home next week against No. 1 Kindred. Park River, after falling to 0-1 to start the season, will return home next week against Thompson.

CENTURY STARTS SEASON OFF STRONG SHUTTING OUT WATFORD CITY 33-0

GRAND FORKS— There's a new coach in town in Grand Forks, as Jake Schauer led his team to a 33-0 blowout over Watford City in his first game at the helm.

The Knight set the tone early during the first game of the season. On the opening kickoff Central returned the ball down the field to give itself an early lead.

Central begins the season 1-0 and will face Fargo North next week.

ROUGHRIDERS LATE SURGE SOARS RED RIVER TO 43-14 WIN OVER WILLISTON

GRAND FORKS— There were several question marks heading into the season for Red River with a new quarterback under center, but Pearce Parks was able to get the job done leading the Rough Riders to a 43-14 win over Williston.

The Coyotes took an early lead in the 1st quarter, but the RoughRiders responded in the second. Brett Feller took care of business on the ground for Red Rivers scoring three touchdowns.

Red River will look to carry its success on the road next week, taking on defending state champions Jamestown.

L-E-M ROLLS BY BISHOP RYAN IN TOP FIVE MATCH

MINOT— No. 2 Langdon Area-Edmore-Munich took down No. 5 Bishop Ryan 50-20 on Friday night. Rayce Worley and Markuz Kingzett got the offense going early with a tip drill catch.

The Cardinals move to 1-0 and travel to Harvey/Wells County next week.

THOMPSON ASSERTS ITS DOMINANCE WITH 54-0 WIN OVER GRAFTON

THOMPSON— Thompson it's looking to make its first Dakota Bowl appearance since 2018, the Tommies did not mess around on their home turf winning 54-0 over Grafton.

Tommies quarterback Jake Starcevic led the way for Thompson racking up three rushing touchdowns, as well as two passing touchdown.s

Thompson will head on the road to Park River in search of two straight wins.
