WAYNE, Neb. — Wayne State started strong, and eventually held off Minnesota State Moorhead's comeback attempt for a 78-73 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball win Friday night at Rice Auditorium.
The Wildcats jumped out to a 31-10 lead after the first 10 minutes and led by 20 at halftime. The Dragons came storming back, outscoring the home team 27-11 in the third before coming all the way back to take a 64-62 lead with 5 minutes, 44 seconds to go. Wayne State finished on a 16-9 run, however, snapping the Dragons three-game winning streak.
MSUM was led by Peyton Boom's 22 points and nine rebounds. Megan Hintz added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Natalie Steichen and Sarah Jacobson each added nine points. The Dragons shot 26-for-70 (37.1%) from the floor.
Erin Norling paced the Wildcats (12-5, 7-4 NSIC) with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Halley Busse knocked down a game-high four 3-pointers to finish with 19 points.
