WEST FARGO — West Fargo Sheyenne senior guard Blake Berg has decided to play men's basketball at St. John's, recently committing to the NCAA Division III program.

"I think Blake is going to have no problem adjusting to the college level," Sheyenne head coach Tom Kirchoffner said. "He's got the athleticism and he's got the frame."

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound Berg had a 117 assists this past season, along with Tyler Terhark, as they both set a school record for assists in a season. Berg helped the Mustangs to the North Dakota Class A boys basketball semifinals. The tournament was suspended at that point and eventually canceled.

Berg averaged 15.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game in his finals season with the Mustangs, who finished the season with a 23-2 record.

"It's a great school and a great basketball program," Kirchoffner said of St. John's. "He's going to do really well there."

Fargo Davies senior Cameron Van Dam also committed to St. John's in late March.

Peterson covers college athletics for The Forum, including Concordia College and Minnesota State Moorhead. He also covers the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks independent baseball team and helps out with North Dakota State football coverage. Peterson has been working at the newspaper since 1996.
