MINNEAPOLIS – Thursday’s Class 3A semifinal was not played at the pace Winona would prefer.

The second-seeded Winhawks averaged 65 points a game this season, and their matchup with Becker (20-10) finished with a total of 70 points.
Still, the Winhawks (25-6) made the key plays down the stretch in a 37-33 win over unseeded Becker.
Winona shot just 34 percent from the field and had as many made shots as turnovers – 13. But the Winhawks won the game on the defensive end, where they held Becker to 27 percent shooting and forced 17 turnovers.
Holy Angels 55, Thief River Falls 42
The first 10 points were easy for the Thief River Falls Prowlers.
Almost all of the rest were hard as the Prowlers dropped a 55-42 decision to fifth-seeded Holy Angels in a Class 3A semifinal at Williams Arena Thursday in the 2016 Minnesota state girls’ basketball tournament.
Thief River Falls jumped out to a 10-0 lead to start the game. But once the Holy Angels Stars started finding the range, there was no stopping them.
Class 4A
Hopkins 85, Eastview 67
Hopkins is proving to be a hurdle Eastview can’t quite clear.
Hopkins finished off Eastview’s state title hopes for the second year in a row, beating the Lightning 85-67 in the Class 4A semifinals on Thursday night at Williams Arena.
Hopkins senior forward Nia Hollie, a Michigan State commit, was dominant in all phases Thursday. She finished with 28 points and five rebounds to lead the Royals’ potent attack.
