State wrestling tournament provides thrills on the mat

SPORTS SUNDAY -- Wrestlers from all across the state flocked to the Fargodome, after a season of pushing themselves to the very limit, just for a chance to be called a state champion.

Dickinson won the Class A state duals 32-28 over Bismarck High.

They become only the third school to win duals in state history.

In Class B, Lisbon captured their first duals title since 2008, while also winning the individuals.

Twin brothers Christian and Wilfried Tanefeu (106 lbs and 113 lbs) both left Fargo as state champions for the Demons - and it was in their first-ever state tournament appearance.

Meanwhile, Fargo Davies' Kolbe Booker, having struggled with a shoulder injury this season, produced a last-gasp takedown with only seconds remaining, to defeat Mandan's Kolten Reisenauer in the 160-weight class.

Sophomore Reece Bardnhardt of Bismarck St. Mary's has a promising career ahead of him.

He won a state championship in 2018, and he was only a freshman.

This season, he never suffered defeat, and went 50-0, capping it off with a 12-6 victory over Brendan Johnson of Dickinson.
