Two felony charges and 10 other lesser charges have been filed in Meeker County District Court against the Dassel man who barricaded himself in his home Monday and Tuesday after reports that he had threatened a family member. SWAT teams from several agencies responded, and he eventually surrendered. Officers found evidence in the home that they believe indicates the man fired in the direction of law enforcement.
A man had threatened to shoot family members the evening of Aug. 1, then barricaded himself in his home. He finally exited his home at approximately 9:45 p.m. Aug. 2 and was taken into custody.
Meeker County Jail staff attempted life-saving measures after finding a 28-year-old man unresponsive in his cell Thursday, the sheriff reported in a news release. The man was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. There is no evidence of foul play at this time, according to Sheriff Brian Cruze.
According to the release, Allen Hanson, 51, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel who found his vehicle in a cornfield following the crash on County Road 36 1/2 west of Highway 75. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The name of the 44-year-old victim in a head-on crash Friday morning is expected to be released late Saturday afternoon. He was killed when the car he was driving crossed the center line and struck a semi.
