The man's remains were taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Grand Forks for an autopsy, according to the Cass County Sheriff's Office, which continues to investigate the incident.

An ATF investigator who typically responds to fires related to houses of worship, worked with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, the North Dakota State Fire Marshal’s Office and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation to determine that the fire at the church was arson.
Firefighters rescued a kitten and gerbils, and a damage estimate was not available Saturday afternoon.

He said the church and connected buildings were found to be secure when firefighters arrived and it was possible the fire started on the outside of the structure.
West Fargo Fire Department's K-9 team was also brought in to help in the investigation.
