FARGO— A first time match-up in the boys quarterfinals at the North Dakota State Hockey Tournament on Thursday. Grand Forks Red River making its 54th appearance, the Roughriders facing off against Bismarck Legacy, who became a varsity team just three months ago. Red River moves on after the 6-0 win. Wyatt LeDuc opened the scoring after scoring on the five minute major power play in the first period.
The Roughriders will meet Fargo South-Shanley in the quarterfinals, after the Bruins took down Mandan 4-1 in the opening round. Sam Ovsak scored with 0.6 seconds remaining in the second period to make it 3-1 and the Bruins didn't look back from there. Sheyenne and Davies also winning the quarterfinal games on Thursday.
The girls quarterfinals also getting underway at Scheels Arena. In the night portion, Fargo North-South earns a 5-0 win against Minot, while Bismarck holds off Jamestown 6-3.
Grafton punched its ticket to the Class B Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday night after taking down Thompson in the Region 2 Championship, 57-36. This is the third straight year that Grafton will be representing Region 2.
After a four day delay, the Region 1 girls basketball tournament getting underway in Fargo on Thursday. Central Cass cruised to a 72-37 win over Hankinson in the quarterfinals, behind a game high 16 points from Decontee Smith.

The defending state champions and second seeded Squirrels will face Northern Cass in Friday's semifinals, after the Jaguars defeated Tri-State, 64-45.
