John Wheeler: It is okay to be frustrated with our cold and snowy March
However, it was colder and there was more snow on the ground through the middle of March just four years ago in 2019.
FARGO — A meteorologist's ear to the window has been picking up on a lot of exasperated comments about the weather this month. Never, they say, can they remember a March with so much snow on the ground, and never-never has it been so consistently cold into the middle of March with no sign of spring. The exasperation is understood and empathy is offered.
However, it was colder and there was more snow on the ground through the middle of March just four years ago in 2019, and there have been many other cold and snowy early springs in the past. It is perfectly understandable to be frustrated when the winter here lingers late into spring, but be frustrated with the knowledge that this sort of thing is fairly common here. Some years, we get a few pretty nice days in March and many more in April. This is not one of those years.
