Following the warmest December through February period on record, March of 2012 began with nine inches of snow on the ground, courtesy of a few late February snowfalls. Despite the snow, the temperature hit 50 degrees March 10. On the 13th, the snow was gone, and we had our first day in the 60s.

March 16 was the first of four consecutive days in the upper 70s. This included an incredible 60-degree overnight low March 18, which is 12 degrees warmer than any other March low temperature on record. There would be two more 70-degree days in March of 2012, and the month finished 13.8 degrees above average per day. Although less extreme than March, the remainder of spring and summer was warmer than average. The following summer was hot and dry.
