Scattered strong storms are possible Saturday afternoon and early evening
Mild and somewhat humid air this afternoon could become unstable enough for rapid updrafts to develop in a few thunderstorms.
FARGO - Despite the calendar, there is a slight chance of a few strong to severe thunderstorms to develop this Saturday afternoon and evening in a region of west-central and central Minnesota.
A low-pressure area will move across western Minnesota today, pushing a front ahead of it. Modestly unstable air this afternoon, especially in areas where the sun comes out, could become unstable enough for rapid updrafts to develop in a few thunderstorms. This will make it possible for a few storms to become severe. Isolated hail, strong winds, funnel clouds, and maybe a tornado will be possible from mid-afternoon until around sunset.
The area of concern is east of the Red River and along and south of U.S. Highway 2. Although the threat for severe weather is not high, make sure you are weather aware today.
