WEST FARGO - Good food conquers all.

Stone Town Grill has had a slow opening, but people are catching on to the build-your-own-bowl buffet restaurant along the bustling Veterans Boulevard corridor.

The eatery at 705 32nd Ave. E. opened Nov. 30, then closed down a week later due to a staff member having a COVID exposure.

A week later, they reopened, but by then it was the holiday shopping rush, "a distracting time," co-owner Jessica Larghe said Monday, Jan. 11.

“We were just trying to be safe and follow the rules,” Larghe said of the temporary closure. “I think having it closed made it confusing for the public.”

Larghe and her husband and co-owner, Marty, designed Stone Town's “build your own bowl" experience. Diner move down a buffet line to fill a large bowl, starting with pasta, rice, quinoa, or salad, then add any combination of more than 20 vegetables and meat or plant-based proteins. They then move on to another buffet , with a dozen different sauces featuring flavor profiles from around the world. From there, the bowls are dropped off at one of four grills, where cooks can add shrimp, bacon, avocado or fried egg for an extra charge.

Larghe emphasized that there are many gluten-free and vegan options for those who maintain a specialized diet.


Guests can come in to build their bowl and dine in the spacious dining area or carry out, A staff member can build their bowl for them and bring it to their table, or they can order online and carry out. There is no delivery at this time.

Larghe said the buffet options can be overwhelming for some people. She said managers or servers will be glad to lend advice in putting together meals.

“There’s a learning curve to crafting their bowl. After a couple times, people know what they will do,” she said.

Larghe said their brand is a marriage of the spices and adventurous flavors that she and her husband enjoyed from around the world.

Jessica worked in Fargo-area restaurants about 10 years. Marty worked with HuHot restaurants for a number of years. Together they have nearly 50 years of experience in the restaurant business, she said.

Restaurant hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday, though Larghe said there are plans to expand Sunday hours to 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. in the next couple weeks.
