WEST FARGO — The city's planned kick-off event to construction on Sheyenne Street has now been rescheduled to Saturday, May 8, due to the weather forecast.
Color Fest will now be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at The Yards on Sheyenne. Community members and local artists will be welcome to paint Sheyenne Street intersections from Second Avenue West to Fourth Avenue West.
The art event is planned as a way to bring the community downtown to Sheyenne Street to showcase local art talent and as an official kickoff to work that has begun on the $10.5 million reconstruction of Sheyenne Street.
The city has chosen artists that include Leigh Nelson, Lesley Anne Buegel of Fargo and Nicole Gagner of Bismarck, who submitted designs that will be incorporated onto the street.
The public is invited to then join the artists on the street to help bring their individual visions to life. West Fargo will supply all paint and materials.
The event was proposed as West Fargo aims to bring a sense of having a "downtown" to the city along Sheyenne Street. The area north of Interstate 94 was recently renamed "The Yards" as a nod to West Fargo's stockyard history.
The city is expecting about 200 attendees, with about 45 elementary, middle and high school students creating art along the streets as well.
