WEST FARGO — Vincent Williams has accepted the position as secondary assistant superintendent for West Fargo Public Schools.

Williams will replace Allen Burgad, who will retire at the end of this school year.

Williams began his career in education as a high school social studies teacher at Fargo North High School in 2004.

During the 2014–2015 school year, he served as the assistant principal intern at Kennedy Elementary School in Fargo, followed by a year as the assistant principal intern at Fargo’s Lincoln Elementary School. In 2016, he accepted the position as the assistant principal and English learner coordinator at Woodrow Wilson High School. He was the principal at Fargo’s Discovery Middle School from 2017–2020 before being named principal at Sheyenne High School in 2020.

Williams holds a specialist’s degree in educational leadership from North Dakota State University, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Minnesota State University Moorhead and a bachelor’s degree in social studies from Minnesota State University Moorhead.

“In just a year at West Fargo Public Schools, Mr. Williams has exceeded our expectations as a skilled and compassionate leader," Superintendent Beth Slette said in a release. "He believes in providing students with equitable opportunities to not only learn, but to also identify their passions and grow as individuals. His enthusiasm for personalized learning and collaboration will be assets to students, as well as the entire community.”

The school district initially chose Northern Cass Superintendent Cory Steiner to replace Burgad. But on Thursday, March 25, a day after announcing Steiner had accepted the position of West Fargo secondary assistant superintendent, West Fargo Schools Spokeswoman Heather Leas said Steiner informed the district that he would be staying at Northern Cass School District as superintendent.

In a Facebook post, Steiner said he reconsidered after receiving many hugs and signs of appreciation from the Northern Cass community in Hunter, N.D.

Williams will officially start his role on July 1.
