WEST FARGO — During her 30 years of nursing, Susan Nordquist has always put patient care at the front of her mind.
After many years of working at Essentia Health in Fargo, Nordquist decided to open up the Convenient Care Clinic inside the Eagle Run Plaza off Sheyenne Street.
Before opening the new clinic, she said she was seeing patients with insurance deductibles as high as $8,000, which led to some patients not coming in for regular appointments.
"(Their) insurance may not be covering as well (as it should)," Nordquist said.
Seeing this happen inspired her to charge only a $40 flat rate per appointment and a minimal charge for tests related to a patient's diagnosis.
She said this will help patients who are underinsured, uninsured or don't qualify for any kind of assistance.
"This way, they won't have to be making payments for the next six or seven months just to be seen (for an appointment)," Nordquist said.
Although her clinic is just stretching its legs — it opened on June 1 — Nordquist said her reason for opening one is simple.
"To make a difference in the lives of people," she said. "That's why I became a nurse 30 years ago."
The Convenient Care Clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.
